Your most commonly asked questions... answered!
Q: Do I have to run for all 12 hours?
A: No! Run (or WALK) as far as you'd like and stop when you feel done. Or take a break... this is your race. As long as the clock is running, you are wearing a number and a timing chip you are in the game. Have a snack.. take a nap and then get back into it. Or, run your first marathon or ultra in a well supported environment.
Q: Is there a bathroom?
A: There will be 3 on course port-o-potties, and there are restroom facilities 1/10 mile from the course as well
Q: Can I have a pacer?
A: No. But crew can take care of you from anywhere on the course.
Q: What if I sign up, but get hurt and can't run? Is there a refund policy?
A: Sorry, no refunds once you have registered. However, you are encouraged to show up and do your best. Maybe you are not 100%, but you may be surprised at how much you are able to do even when not at your best. As long as you finish 1 lap, there is no DNF!
Q: Can I have my own aid?
A: There is plenty of room for a small (10 X10 or less) tent, chair, coolers, whole family - whatever you'd like to bring along. Our aid station is well stocked, but there is comfort in having your own gear. Bring it all... even the kitchen sink!
Q: What's up with the weird age groups?
A: Since MTD has such a small field, if traditional USATF age group standards were used, practically everyone would get an award! It's not in the budget, and diminishes what the fastest competitors accomplished. However, all will receive a finisher's medal, goody bag and race logo tech hat.
Q: I've heard Rochester has crazy weather. What can I expect?
A: Who knows? The odds are weather will be in the high 50s to low 60s, but come prepared for anything.
Q: I don't get it. What's up with the name?
A: Dictionary.com has no less than 34 meanings for the word "mind" and in this case, mind is used as a verb , as in "mind your manners". Really what we are telling you is to "be careful of the ducks", or more importantly the geese. Since the ducks are nesting in May there will be very few of them around, but there will be plentiful geese who care not a lick that you are in the middle of a race!
